Overview:  This function allows you to include an action plan as part of your appraisal. Enabling an action plan allows the reviewer to issue follow on courses such as additional training, further appraisals, competencies and goals, and tailor these based on the outcome of the appraisal.

Note: Some companies choose to rename 'appraisals' to something that works better for their company. If Appraisals is part of your package and you are having trouble locating it on your system, please get in touch with us.

Start from: A new appraisal form.

Action plan

An action plan is an additional section of an appraisal that, when enabled, activates further text boxes for the reviewer and learner to enter their follow-up actions, notes, questions, and feedback after their appraisal has been completed.

This improves communication and helps identify a plan for the learner, while also consolidating the appraisal for both parties, making sure they both understand the outcome and are informed about what next steps to take.

Action plan settings

  • Select Include Action Plan? in Step 1 - Details if you want to include an action plan in your appraisal.

Note: When this option is set an action plan text box will appear when either the learner or reviewer views the appraisal.

  • Enter your Action plan label in the text box.

Note: You can rename the action plan to something less formal or more specific to your appraisal type (e.g., "Wrap up" or "Next steps").

  • Select Save.
  • Select Step 3 - Action Plan to begin adding questions to your action plan.

Action plan questions

Decide what you want your action plan steps to be and whether they are for the reviewer, the learner, or both. Think of what questions apply to each step of your action plan.

Action plan questions are added, modified and ordered in a similar way to appraisal questions in Step 2, but without categories. See Understand appraisal questions for more information.

  • Select Add Question  to create the steps in the action plan in the same way as other appraisal questions in Step 2. These questions can be used later to check that follow up actions from the appraisal have been completed. You can add as many steps as required.
  • Select Edit  on a question to edit the question details.

Note: The option to edit is only available after the question name has been entered.

  • Use the Help text box to write any additional information that helps the learner and reviewer understand what is required by this step of the action plan.

Note: The Help text box can be expanded if required by dragging the bottom right corner.

  • Select the Manager response enabled toggle to make the action plan question visible to training managers.
  • Select the Learner response enabled toggle to make the action plan question visible to learners.
  • Select Save within the pop-up to confirm your changes OR select Close to leave the pop-up without making any changes.
  • Drag  to reorder the action plan questions.
  • Select  to delete a question and all its contents.
  • Select Save to confirm all changes before you leave Step 3 - Action Plan.

Note: You can continue to edit the action plan once the appraisal has been assigned. See Edit scheduled appraisals for individual learners to find out more about adding reviewer responses and assigning an action plan course comprising modules, external training, appraisals, workbooks, competences and goals.

Including an action plan in your appraisal will add an extra section at the end of the form, displaying all the action plan questions you have added. The additional space is for notes or questions and allows both the learner and reviewer to get the most out of the appraisal.

Note: It's not currently possible to create reports on action plans. Contact your Customer Success Manager for more details
