Overview: Career mapping is a great way to retain staff by promoting internal positions and showing learners possible career progression routes within the company.

Start from: The Flow Dashboard.

 

  • Select Learning and Development > L&D settings.

  • Find Career Map on the Configure screen.
  • Select View    to open the career mapping page.
  • Select Add    to start creating a new career map.

  • Enter the name of the career map in the Name your Career Map text box. Note: This is a required field.
  • Enter a description in the Add Description text box. Note: A description is optional but adding one will help learners understand what the career map entails.
  • Upload a Cover image (aka header image) make the career path visually appealing to learners.
  • Enter a career path name in the Add Career path(s) text box.
  • Select    to add your career path. You can repeat this to create as many different career paths as you require.
  • Select    to delete a career path.
  • Use the Select Brand(s) dropdown to select the brands you want to make your career map accessible to. Note: Leave blank if you would like your content to be accessible across all brands.
  • Use the Select Jurisdiction(s) dropdown to select the jurisdiction you want to make your career map accessible to. Note: Leave blank if you would like your content to be accessible across all jurisdictions.
  • Select Next to proceed OR select Cancel to discard the changes and return to the career map page.

 

Career map

Use the template provided to create a career map by filling out various levels and roles for the particular job role you have selected.

  • Select    > Edit    to edit the name of your career path if required.
  • Select    Add Job Role beneath Level 1 to add in the level 1 job roles for that career path. Note: this will open a pop-up that lets you add in the job role information for that field.

  • Enter the name of your level 1 job role in the Enter a Job Role text box. You can either select existing job roles from the dropdown menu OR select    Create item to add a new job role. Note: this is a required field.
  • Select the Vacancy toggle to on to show that there is a vacancy for this job role within your business. Note: When switched to on, a blank text box is activated which you can use to add a link to the job vacancy. This is optional.
  • Use the Enter Job Role Overview content editor to enter a description of what the job role entails, this will let the learner know what they can expect if they choose to progress to this position. Note: This is a required field.
  • Enter a job title in the Select Job Title(s) text box. When you start to type, you can select from the existing job titles on the system.
  • Select Upload Image    to upload an image to this job role. This image will appear in Mapal One to represent this job role for learners. You will be prompted to choose an image from your files, then use the tools to crop or zoom in or out of the image. Once added the image name and size will appear in bold with an option to delete. Supported file extensions: png, jpg.
  • Select Upload PDF    to upload a Pdf with further details on the job role. e.g., a description of the roles and responsibilities. This pdf will appear in Mapal One for learners to view, save, print or download. You will be prompted to choose a PDF from your files and once added the file name and size will appear in bold with an option to delete. Supported file extensions: PDF.
  • Select Save to confirm the changes OR select Close to discard the changes and return to the career mapping page.

Adding job roles to the map

Once you have saved the job role for this level, you are returned to the career mapping page to continue adding other job roles to your map:

  • Select    Add Job Role to continue adding job roles into levels 2, 3, and so on, as the level of each role progresses. 
  • Select    Add Level to add more levels to your career map if required.
  • Select    Add Row to add another row of job roles to the career map if required.
  • Select    Add Another Career Path if you would like to extend the career map to include other career paths that weren't included in the initial set-up.

 

To help you get a better understanding of how the career map might look, you can view an example of a populated career map by selecting the highlighted populated examples link in the career mapping add or edit page. You can view this from the point of view of a manager on the Flow Learning platform by choosing Management System or as a learner on the Mapal One platform by choosing Module Manager.

When you have completed the career map and are happy with each job role and level:

  • Select Save Draft if you would like to keep working on it.
  • Select Preview to view the career map as the learner will see it in the Mapal One learner's portal. 

Once you have finished and are happy with the final checks, you are ready to publish.

Note: Before proceeding it is worth knowing that as soon as you have published your career map, it will be available for learners within the career section of the Mapal One learner's portal. Manage which career map(s) learners can view by setting Brands and Jurisdictions in the section above. Learners can select the career map they wish to view and select each job role in the career map to find out more about it.

  • Select Publish.

The published career map will now appear on the career mapping management page with 'Yes' in the published column.

Editing a published career map

To make changes to the career map:

  • Select    > Edit    to make edits to the career map. 
  • Select    > Unpublish    to unpublish the career map which will remove it from the Mapal One learner's portal.
  • Select    > Preview    to view the career map as the learner will see it in the Mapal One learner's portal. 
  • Select    to delete the career map.
