Overview:  Appraisal question categories are used to group questions into logical blocks. Categories can be reordered, temporarily disabled, and given an individual description to explain what their questions cover. Questions are created within categories or in the Uncategorised section but can't be moved from one category to another once created.

Note: Some companies choose to rename 'appraisals' to something that works better for their company. If Appraisals is part of your package and you are having trouble locating it on your system, please get in touch with us.

Start from: The Step 2 - Questions section of a new appraisal form.

Categories

It's worth considering in advance whether you wish to use categories, which group your questions into logical sections and can be rearranged to change the order they appear in the appraisal. It isn't possible to move questions between categories after they are created, so it makes sense to decide before you start adding questions to the appraisal.

The Uncategorised section can be used to add questions without creating a category for them.

  • Select Add Category

  • Use the Category Name text field to enter a name for each category.
  • Select Add Category  to add more categories. You can add as many as required.
  • Drag  to reorder categories. They will appear in the appraisal in the order shown in the edit page, from top to bottom.
  • Select Delete  to delete a category and all of its contents.
  • Select Edit  on a category to edit its name and description details and toggle its Enabled status. Categories which are not enabled will be hidden from the appraisal when in use.

Note: The option to edit is only visible after the category name has been entered.

  • Select Save to confirm your changes.

  • Select the Enabled check box to make the category visible when the appraisal is displayed. If Enabled is unchecked, the category and all the questions within it will not be visible when the appraisal is assigned.

    • Select  to choose between different column styles.
    • Select  to choose between different text styles.
    • Select font and font size from the drop-down menus to create interesting font styles.

    • Select  to insert a link.
    • Select  to embed a video URL (YouTube, Vimeo, Vine, Instagram, Dailymotion or Youku).
    • Select  to insert a horizontal rule.
    • Select  to enter full screen mode.
  • Select Save to keep the changes, OR select Close to discard them, and return to the Edit Appraisal page.

Once categories are successfully added, you can begin adding questions to the appraisal. See Understand appraisal questions for more information.
