Overview: Direct work encompasses activities performed by employees directly involved in sales within a specific work center. Managing direct work involves estimating and configuring the number of individuals performing these tasks per net sale or tickets produced within each quarter-hour timeframe. The employees associated with direct work are designated in the system according to the specific work center.
Defining Direct Work tables for any production center is one of the fundamental steps in configuring the Workforce module. It essentially serves as the "DNA" of each production center, where companies articulate their Service Level decision for each sales volume or transaction per quarter-hour.
To successfully configure a direct work table, see Set up direct work tables.
As previously mentioned, Direct work is set up in specific work centers; however, there are two possible ways of setting up direct work in a work center: by selecting specific job positions (Demand by workstations) or based on the total service demand —customer traffic or tickets— in the business unit (By total demand).
- To set up direct work based on a specific workstation or job position, see Set up direct work for a workstation.
- To set up direct work based on the total service demand in the business unit, see Set up direct work by service demand.
